Block as a Learning Tool

Blocking can help players study enemy rhythm before committing to parries or dodges. The final guide should explain chip damage, guard break, resource cost, and attacks that cannot be safely blocked if those systems exist in the final game.

Launch Verification

  • Whether block has a resource cost.
  • Which attack categories bypass or punish blocking.
  • How block differs from parry on recovery and reward.
  • Boss attacks where block is safest for beginners.

What the Hands-On Preview Confirms

PlayStation's Summer Game Fest 2024 report states that players could hold L1 to block incoming attacks in the demonstrated PS5 build. It also distinguished blocking from timed parries and dodges, which could lead to stronger counters. That is useful evidence for the core control, but it is not enough to claim that every launch enemy, unblockable attack, difficulty, or weapon follows identical rules.

Beginner Drill

Against a familiar early enemy, hold block and watch the complete string before attacking. Then repeat while noting chip damage, guard cost, pushback, and recovery. Only replace the block with a parry after the rhythm is recognizable.
